Police have admitted it was likely an armed officer who fatally shot a civilian and seriously injured another in their attempts to stop a terrorist attack on a Manchester synagogue.
Six minutes later, police declared a “major incident” and said firearms officers shot the attacker dead at 9.38am.
An initial examination of one of the people who died showed a wound consistent with a gunshot injury and one of the victims recovering in hospital also suffered a gunshot wound.
“It is believed both victims were close together behind the synagogue door as worshippers acted bravely to prevent the attacker from gaining entry.
“Our thoughts and prayers remain with all of the families, and the wider community, impacted by this incident across Greater Manchester and beyond.”
