An interesting sidenote in the life of Lucille Ball:she spent part of her childhood in Michigan. It was 1912 and Lucy was one year old when her family moved from her birthplace of Jamestown, New York to the city of Wyandotte, south of Detroit. Her father Henry was an electrician who moved the family to Michigan in order to work for the Bell Telephone Company. All of a sudden, the other children were not allowed to play with Lucy anymore and she couldn’t understand why. Not able to afford remaining in Wyandotte, the family moved back to Lucy’s birthplace, Jamestown, when Lucy was 3 ½ years old.
