The death toll from Typhoon Bualoi and the floods it triggered in Vietnam has risen to 51, the government said Friday, as the central bank urged financial institutions to support affected businesses, Reuters reported. Bualoi made landfall Monday in northern central Vietnam, bringing huge sea swells, powerful winds and heavy rains. The agency raised its estimate of property damage to 15.9 trillion dong (USD 603 million), up from USD 435.8 million in a report issued Thursday. Roads, schools and offices were severely damaged, while power grid failures left tens of thousands of families without electricity. Deputy governor Pham Thanh Ha said the central bank has asked banks to consider restructuring or freezing payments on loans for companies hit by the typhoon.
