Wasim Younus, of Gloucester Road, was sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Thursday, October 2 a total of 30 weeks’ imprisonment. The court heard that officers from Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE), who were investigating an allegation of support for a proscribed organisation, arrested Younus on Friday, May 31 2024. At the same hearing on October 2, Younus was also sentenced for sending an offensive message contrary to the Malicious Communications Act. Younus was sentenced to 20 weeks’ imprisonment for the RIPA offence and a further 10 weeks’ imprisonment for the malicious communications offence, with sentences to run consecutively to each other. “Not providing the PIN can also have wider implications than the individual at hand and can negatively impact the safety of our communities in the south east and beyond.
