Representatives of Britain, Norway, the Netherlands, Germany, and Ireland, began consultations in Geneve in Switzerland on Tuesday, on the drafting of a draft resolution to extend the mandate of the UN fact-finding mission on human rights in Sudan. The mission was formed by the UN Human Rights Council after the outbreak of war in Sudan in 2023, and its mandate was extended last year for a year. Representatives of member States of the Human Rights Council, as well as civil society organizations, participated in the consultations. These are not accidental tragedies but deliberate strategies amounting to war crimes. “Sudan is living through one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises and gravest hunger emergencies, with some of its population facing war crimes, persecution and extermination,” Othman said.
