The three men were young, heavily armed, and only there for the loot — stacks of cash inside the First National Bank in Shakopee, Minnesota. This was to be the third bank robbery in Scott County in less than a month. "The machine gun, shotgun and revolver fire of authorities perforated virtually all parts of his body," wrote the Rochester Post Bulletin. The trio faced first-degree bank robbery charges, and were arraigned, "by a strange twist of fate," before Judge Weiland, who was also a witness to the robbery. It was "machine gun psychology," the editors of the Minneapolis Tribune called it: "The Shakopee bank robbery showed to what good use the law can put the machine gun."
