Many Catholics might be called “traditional”, but some describe themselves as “traditionalists”.
Their interpretation of the Second Vatican Council ranges from those who seek the pre-Vatican II Latin Mass, which has grown in popularity among families and young people, to traditionalists who also reject Vatican II, including groups on the fringe of the Church.
While the spectrum is wide, Traditionalism is identified with the Society of St Pius X, founded after the Council by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre.
