By Allan Hird The Australian Government signed the UNESCO International Convention Against Doping in Sport in October 2005.
By doing so, it committed Australia’s athletes of all ages, and irrespective of whether they were participants in domestic or international competition, to the remit of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
Under the convention Australia’s athletes are subject to the World Anti-Doping Code (WADC).
WADA, a creation of the International Olympic Committee, wrote and administers the code.
The code lays out what substances are prohibited in sport, how athletes will be investigated, what penalties will apply, what constitutes guilt, how athletes will be prosecute...
