The distribution arm of National Grid, which owns and operates Great Britain’s transmission network, National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) announced on LinkedIn that it now has 14GW of distributed energy resources (DERs) connected to its network.
Its service area covers the East and West Midlands, South Wales and the South West.
Of the connected DERs, 10GW is renewables, including onshore wind, large-scale solar PV, rooftop solar and energy storage.
It said: “That’s a powerful indicator of how far we’ve come in enabling clean, decentralised energy for homes and businesses locally.
The wind figure at distribution level is lower because the majority of the UK’s wind capacity (23GW operational) is transmission connected.
