At the end of July, trade association Solar Energy UK launched Solar Careers UK with the aim of guiding “every person possible” into solar careers. The Solar Careers programme was a key part of the UK government’s Solar Roadmap, a government-industry paper setting out 72 practical measures to achieve 60GW installed solar by 2030. The talent pool, fed into from careers events, Solar Careers UK outreach and social media, will enable those interested to sign up to receive job alerts and other communication about opportunities in the solar sector. A digital platform for solar skills and job vacanciesThe three main goals of the Solar Careers UK programme are to promote career opportunities, support recruitment and promote training opportunities. If they have transferrable work experience, they have transferrable skills, we want to guide all those people who are interested into solar.”The Solar Careers UK team, working with the steering group, has established the six most in-demand roles in the sector to be:Small-scale solar PV designer & installer Small-scale solar PV project manager Commercial and industrial solar PV installer Commercial and industrial solar PV design engineer Commercial and industrial solar PV project manager Utility-scale site technicianThe website now features job descriptions for four solar sector roles: small-scale solar PV designer and installer, small-scale solar PV project manager, commercial and industrial solar PV project manager, utility-scale site technician.
