The UK government has opened consultation on proposed guidance for developers of nationally significant infrastructure projects (NSIPs). The Planning and Infrastructure Bill, published earlier this year, made several changes to the NSIP process, in a bid to speed delivery and reduce costs. The consultation discusses measures to further streamline the infrastructure planning process and how best to implement measures from the Bill. A key change to the planning process was the removal of the statutory consultation at the pre-application stage. Section 51 advice is issued by the Planning Inspectorate (PINS) to local authorities and other relevant parties about the NSIP process.
