UK storage developer RheEnergise has completed “the main mechanical works” at its long-duration hydro-energy storage system facility in Devon. The company described the Cornwood research and development (R&D) demonstrator, near Plymouth, as a “real-life test laboratory” for its technology, which combined long-duration energy storage (LDES) and pumped hydro technology. Launched in 2022, the programme awarded over $69 million of capital funding across two competition streams, ultimately awarding 32 projects with funding to develop new long-duration energy storage technologies. RheEnergise received £149,537 through this scheme, and started onsite work at the Cornwood project last year.
