Home battery storage specialist Powervault and demand-side response firm Voltalis have formed a new strategic partnership to bring consumer-led energy flexibility for energy storage to the UK. The new partnership allows customers to participate in both the Capacity Market and Wholesale Market, allowing customers with Powervault solar batteries to use them as revenue generating assets. Uniquely, the technology works with any compatible battery system, regardless of energy supplier, with Voltalis technology being used to automate control of energy storage and supply during times of peak consumption. Dr. Randall Bowen, UK managing director of Voltalis, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting that the partnership allows for consumer led flexibility to be accessible with homeowners’ existing setup. Initially rolled out to 100 homes in Crowle, northern Lincolnshire, and Starbeck, North Yorkshire, the trial combines battery energy storage with flexibility services and improved home insulation to help lower bills for consumers.
