UK energy secretary Ed Miliband has set his vision for the publicly owned Great British Energy company, establishing what he believes should be its key objectives. Miliband’s Statement of Strategic Priorities meets a requirement set in the Great British Energy Act 2025 for the government to publish the state-owned company’s priorities within six months. The latter would see it work alongside the government to deliver a Local Power Plan to ensure communities benefit from the clean energy transition. Most of the clean energy projects in the Government’s’ Industrial Strategy will flow through Great British Energy, enabling us to be the green growth engine for the UK. Great British Energy will produce a strategic plan within six months, setting out how it will meet the energy secretary’s expectations.
