Investor Renewable Power Capital (RPC) and Greenfield have received planning consent for two battery energy storage systems (BESS) totalling 82MW. The projects, a 60MW BESS in Wombourne, Staffordshire, and a 22MW facility in Thanet, Kent, are the fourth and fifth BESS projects for which RPC and Greenfield have secured consent. When they first partnered in 2023, RPC and Greenfield said they would together develop at least 500MW of battery storage in the UK. The partnership launched when RPC acquired two projects from Greenfield, the 40MW Tredington BESS and the 22.8MW Steventon project. The London-headquartered renewables company has a battery storage pipeline over 5.5GW across Great Britain, Italy and Finland, it said.
