Octopus Energy Group will spin-off its technology company, Kraken, in a move it said will speed up the platform’s global expansion. Kraken already has licensing deals with energy majors including EDF, E.ON Next, National Grid US, Origin Energy, Plenitude, and Tokyo Gas, and the move to operate independently of the Octopus Energy Group will allow it to fast-track investments and expand into new energy markets and regions, the company said. Its first partner in the North American energy market to license the platform, Saint John Energy, signed on in May 2024.
