Solar PV sets new yearly record generation in Ireland
['Jonathan Touriño Jacobo', 'Section Editor']
solarpowerportal
Utility-scale solar PV in Ireland has already generated more electricity in the first seven months of 2025 than the whole of 2024.
This is not the only record registered by solar PV during the summer.
This represents a 30MW increase from the previous record, while solar PV reached the 750MW peak threshold back in March, setting the new record at the time.
Despite these new records for solar PV, the technology still represents a small portion of the electricity generation in the Irish grid.
In August, 34.9% of all electricity came from renewables, of which solar PV represented 4.8%, down monthly from the 5.7% of electricity generated in July.
