At the conference “Justice: The Foundation of Development and Prosperity,” the President of the Hellenic Supreme Court (Areios Pagos), Anastasia Papadopoulou, and the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Konstantinos Tzavellas, addressed questions regarding requests for the exhumation of victims of the Tempi rail disaster. Papadopoulou explained that such requests had already been considered during the main investigation, which has now lawfully concluded and been forwarded to the President of the Larissa Court of Appeal. “The exhumation was sought as part of the inquiry, but the investigation has closed in accordance with the law. At this stage, only the President of the Larissa Court of Appeal can rule on such a request,” he said. The Tempi train disaster of February 2023, which claimed 57 lives, remains one of the deadliest accidents in Greece’s recent history.
