Like all drugs, some people may experience significant side effects when taking atorvastatin over a long period, while some may not experience any side effects at all. If you do want to stop taking atorvastatin due to side effects, the NHS advises that you speak to a doctor first. The only time it is advised to stop taking atorvastatin is if you experience serious side effects, in which case you should also call a doctor or dial 111.
