The Banduwang people of Nawaeb District have paid tribute to the late Morobe Governor, Luther Akisawa Wenge, as his body was flown from Port Moresby into Lae this morning. Andrew described Wenge as a leader who carried the struggles of his people with him. “He always cared for women, young girls and vulnerable people, and he fought hard against injustice. Luther Wenge first served as Governor and Member of Parliament for Morobe Province from 1997 to 2012 and was re-elected in 2022, becoming one of the longest-serving Governors in the province’s history. As news of his arrival spread, public motor vehicles and business houses in Lae closed their doors in respect, a gesture reflecting the weight of grief across Morobe.
