A B-double trailer transformed into a mobile space hub will soon hit the road across regional Australia to support rocket launches and bring science and technology education to the bush. Australia's space activities were rapidly expanding, with rocket ranges in rural South Australia and Queensland, CSIRO principal research engineer Craig James said. The mobile operations centre, developed with the iLAuNCH consortium of several universities, is powered by battery-backed solar energy and equipped with satellite and radio telecommunications. Australia needed greater uptake of science training to compete with the rest of the world and continue to deliver high-tech services, Mr James said.
