NewsWire / Nikki Short Credit: News Corp AustraliaNSW public sector psychiatrists have won a 20 per cent pay bump following a wild and drawn-out battle with the state government that involved mass resignations and fears of a dramatic breakdown in mental health services.
In December, more than 150 doctors threatened to walk out en masse over the pay dispute, putting the viability of the state’s public mental health system at risk.
In late January, 43 psychiatrists had quit and up to 200 had threatened to walk away, heaping pressure on Mental Health Minister Rose Jackson.
