The 37-year-old - who has 100 previous convictions for 222 offences - entered the Cancer Research store in Newcastle-under-Lyme on the evening of September 11.
Prosecutor Suzanne Swindail said the defendant entered the Cancer Research shop at 10.10pm on September 11.
But he did recall going to the charity shop and taking two televisions.
He said he did not know it was a Cancer Research shop.
