The suspension of a Palestinian activist who was a student at Vancouver Island University has landed in BC Supreme Court. A Supreme Court Justice heard arguments Thursday from five lawyers about the disciplinary suspension. Sara Kishawi, a Palestinian-Canadian, is petitioning the court for a judicial review of the two-year suspension handed to her by Vancouver Island University (VIU). The BC Civil Liberties Association and BC Federation of Students are both interveners in the case. VIU’s lawyers argued that the university investigated the misconduct allegations, and the investigation, suspension decision and suspension appeal decision were all conducted fairly and with due process.
