WILLIAMSPORT — The city of Williamsport has taken the first step toward term limits for its elected officials, including the mayor. The ordinance would mean Mayor Derek Slaughter, who is in his second term, could seek re-election for one more term if the ordinance passes. City Solicitor Austin White explained the Third Class optional city charter under which Williamsport operates permits term limits. There is a grass-roots movement for term limits, said Councilman Eric Beiter, adding he hopes it would spread across the nation. But he had not discussed term limits with him, he said.
