Redvale landfill – still a thorn in the side of many locals. Waste Management New Zealand (WM) launched the second round of consultation on the future of Redvale Landfill and Energy Park at a well-attended public meeting in Dairy Flat on August 13. Redvale, consented as a Class 1 landfill, takes about 600,000 tonnes of waste each year. The remaining 200,000 tonnes go to Class 2 landfill, which accepts non-putrescible construction and demolition materials such as timber, bricks and concrete. Whitford Landfill is owned and operated by Waste Disposal Services, a joint venture between Auckland Council and WM.
