The surge of money is meant to boost Henderson Defence Precinct’s naval shipbuilding capabilities. Located in the southern part of the city of Perth, Western Australia, Henderson Defence will also serve as a maintenance hub and contingency docking for Australia’s future fleet of nuclear submarines. The investment opens the door for Henderson Defence to provide maintenance for U.S. Navy and Royal Navy submarines, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said in a Sunday press conference. The Henderson Defence Precinct is also where continuous naval shipbuilding will take place in western Australia. “It’s a natural step for an incoming government to take to work out how you can do AUKUS better,” Marles said.
