A Philippine sailor was injured by the China Coast Guard when a water cannon blast tore through his vessel’s bridge in the latest incident at Scarborough Shoal in the South China Sea, according to Manila. The incident consisted of three separate actions from Chinese coast guard and naval forces, according to a Philippine Coast Guard news release. The most severe encounter occurred 14 nautical miles east of Scarborough Shoal and lasted 30 minutes, according to the release. One sailor was injured by flying glass from the bridge’s aft window that shattered during the water cannon attack. Philippine Navy, Coast Guard and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources sailors have sustained similar injuries in past water cannon attacks.
