Also in the Indo-Pacific, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5 will begin Field Carrier Landing Practice (FCLP) on Wednesday in preparation for an upcoming patrol with forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN-73). The air wing will conduct FCLP at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Iwakuni, Japan, through Sept. 26 to qualify aircrew assigned to the wing for underway carrier operations, according to a recent Navy news release. To remedy this, U.S. and Japanese militaries have relocated flight training to more remote air bases in Japan. CVW 5 last conducted FCLP from May 19-31 at Iwo To and carrier qualification practice on George Washington from June 10-16. The carrier and the air wing then rolled into its summer patrol, which concluded Aug. 30.
