The Coast Guard awarded a Virginia Beach, Va., contractor nearly $11 million to revamp a pier at its only ship repair depot in Baltimore, Md., the service announced this week. Ocean Construction Services Inc. received the nearly $11 million contract on Sept. 9 for work to lengthen Pier 1 at the Coast Guard Yard in Baltimore. “Reconstruction of Pier 1 is critical to maintain the Coast Guard’s organic capabilities to perform depot-level maintenance for the fleet and to prepare for post-delivery activities as new cutters are delivered,” reads the release. Under the Reconciliation Act, also known as the“Big Beautiful Bill,” the Coast Guard saw an influx of funding for ships and infrastructure. The bill also included funding for infrastructure, such as the pier reconstruction, a fleet of unmanned aircraft and maritime domain awareness investment.
