Australian officials in Tel Aviv are working with Israeli authorities over the detention of six Australians from a flotilla that was heading towards Gaza. The Australians detained are Surya McEwen, Abubakir Rafiq, Hamish Paterson, Juliet Lamont, Bianca Webb-Pullman and Dan Coward. “We understand that people want to help deliver aid to those suffering in Gaza — we also want to see critical aid delivered,” a DFAT spokesperson said. The Global-Sumud flotilla organisers say they were intending to deliver aid to Gaza and to bring attention to the plight of Palestinians. Health Minister Mark Butler told Sunrise on Friday the government had put in a formal request to Israeli authorities for information on the exact number of Australians who had been detained.
