The data center build-out underpinning the rise of artificial intelligence has raised concerns about surging power demand in much of the world, not least in the US and China, two technology and AI superpowers. While for the US much of the debate revolves around fossil fuels meeting the demand growth, in China, the energy challenge is largely viewed as “solved,” experts say, thanks to its broader build-out of renewable power capacity and a series of policy directives focused on AI’s energy needs.
