Rosatom is promoting a new playbook for newcomer countries, and Uzbekistan appears to be the first to test it out. Uzbekistan’s Uzatom and Russia’s Rosatom agreed on Sep. 26 to shift Uzbekistan’s newbuild plans from the deployment of six small modular reactors (SMRs) to two SMRs and two large reactors. Rosatom argues that a single project dedicated to both large and small reactors could leverage the workforce, infrastructure and power output from cheaper, quicker-to-construct SMRs in the deployment of subsequent large reactors.
