Suppliers are betting that the forecast spike in global volumes by 2030 will translate to prices low enough to spur new demand. Asian economies, led by giants China, Japan and South Korea, are foundational to the LNG demand growth story. Asian LNG imports overall are down about 5% so far this year, headlined by China, where imports fell by 17% to 41.8 million tons in January-August, according to Chinese customs data. Energy Intelligence sees a potential global LNG supply glut by 2029-30, with an expected 625 million tons/yr of available capacity by then against 528 million tons/yr of demand in the base case. The base forecast sees Asia's annual LNG demand reaching 415 million tons in 2032 and 461 million tons in a high-case scenario.
