A smaller-than-expected weekly storage build sent US gas futures toward a 10-week prompt-month high Thursday before bearish near-term fundamentals brought the market back to earth. The storage report sent the November contract to a session peak of $3.585 per million Btu before it retreated in the afternoon to close 3.4¢ lower on the day at $3.442/MMBtu. But Thursday’s modest storage build “doesn’t change expectations that end of injection season supplies will be health at near or slightly over 3,900 Bcf,” NatGasWeather.com said. Weather trends are “still far from being considered bullish. It will now take colder-than-normal temperatures ..., which isn’t expected for at least another two weeks.”
