While trilogies have worked all the way through sometimes in the past, we really only need just one film every once in a while. Not every trilogy is acclaimed, like The Lord of the Rings, The Dark Knight, or The Godfather trilogies. That's sadly what happened to Todd Phillips's Hangover trilogy, one of the biggest head-scratching trilogies in recent memory. The failure of these two has made the Poltergeist trilogy slip under the radar, and today, only the first one is brought up when talking about it. Finally, of course, The Matrix trilogy would get a serious mention on this list, as it's one of the most divisive and notorious trilogies in recent memory.
