Portland Mayor Keith Wilson bemoaned the social media narratives that he said have created a “yawning chasm” between an alleged Rose City battlefield and quotidian reality.
Wilson said that the president was likely spurred to action by antagonistic national media coverage that reused footage from 2020.
“Perhaps few other cities have experienced the consequences of a fracturing American consensus as sharply as Portland, Oregon,” Wilson wrote.
Recent flashpoints on social media include the apparent assault of a conservative media personality, a fistfight and a woman who briefly drove her car into the protest.
President Trump’s rhetoric against Portland has escalated significantly since he first began calling out Portland in 2018.
