The Kalinago Council recently voiced grave concerns over the ongoing environmental damage caused by construction activities at the upper reaches of the Concord River, carried out by the team working on the International Airport Project.
In addition, they said, the destruction of the surrounding forested areas jeopardizes the ecological stability of the river system.
The health of this vital ecosystem is vital not only for the Kalinago people but also for the broader environment of Dominica.
The Council wrote that it is urgently appealing to the Honourable Minister of Environment and all relevant government agencies to take immediate action.
“The Kalinago People are deeply troubled by this situation and call for immediate attention and action before further damage is done,” concluded the statement.
