THE fire service is urging e-bike and e-scooter users to have fun but stay safe this summer – especially when charging the bikes before setting off. “We want everyone to enjoy the freedom and fun of e-bikes and e-scooters this summer holiday – but safely,” said Station Commander John Elsworth of Hereford & Worcester’s Fire and Rescue Service. E-bike and e-scooter fires can ignite in seconds. In 2023, more than 200 fires happened, mostly while charging and often blocking escape routes. They add that charging e-bikes or scooters inside tents or caravans is a deadly risk.
