First Hardly Strictly, then the Kennedy Center — this group of young Oakland musicians is grabbing the spotlight

The Oaklandside
It’s a late afternoon in August inside the 25th Street Recording Studio in Oakland, where young musicians, August Lee Stevens, 25, B DeVeaux, 25, and Naima Nascimento, 15, are rehearsing.
The trio are part of Oakland Rising, a collective of young musicians from Oakland.
The group is housed under the nonprofit Follow the Music, founded two years ago by music executive Phil Green, along with Hardly Strictly Bluegrass.
The three young musicians met each other at Oakland School for The Arts.
