BILLERICA — A juvenile was arrested for reckless operation and failure to stop for police after allegedly speeding on public streets, performing wheelies, and riding a dirt bike through Hajjar Elementary School property while children played nearby. The arrest came on Wednesday during a multi-agency crackdown on illegal off-road vehicle use in Billerica, launched in response to more than 200 community complaints this year. In the incident that led to the arrest, police said the juvenile was riding an unregistered dirt bike at “unreasonably high speeds” and failed to stop when ordered by officers. Billerica Police Chief Roy Frost said that operating off-road vehicles on public streets is illegal unless the vehicles are registered. Additionally, state law requires anyone under 18 to complete a safety course before operating an off-road vehicle.
