Casablanca police detained a 24-year-old man Thursday at the old medina market in Casa-Anfa after he was found carrying a toy gun while masked with a balaclava, authorities said. Another image shows a black plastic gun found in his possession, engraved to indicate it is a replica made in China. Police took him to a local station for questioning under the supervision of the public prosecutor. The arrest occurred as youth-led protests over healthcare, education entered their sixth day in Casablanca and other Moroccan cities. Initially peaceful and organized by the GenZ212 activist group, the demonstrations turned violent in multiple cities, with rioters setting fires, throwing stones, and clashing with security forces, including in Lqliaa in southern Morocco, where three people were killed.
