Ohio’s steelhead trout record was set in 2010 with a fish caught in Lake Erie off Avon. ”The 90-minute class, followed the next day by two hours spent in the river, prepares novices to become sport fishermen for steelhead trout. Instead of using bait, as anglers do for catching perch and other lake fish, trout are caught by mimicking a trout’s food source. Unlike perch and other lake fish, trout anglers use flys to mimic the behavior and appearance of insects such as mayfly, caddisfly, midge and stonefly. Sturgeon Fest, a sturgeon-stocking event for the Cuyahoga River, will welcome help from the public at Merwin’s Wharf, in downtown Cleveland on the Cuyahoga River.
