With any franchise that’s been around as long as Star Trek has, there are always going to be a certain number of tantalizing “what-ifs.” From narrative swerves (What if Christopher Pike was never injured and remained the Enterprise’s captain?) Like the idea that Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’s captain could have been played by a former Ghostbuster. The first Black actor to lead a Star Trek series, he reportedly beat out over 100 other actors for the role of Captain Benjamin Sisko. (Sisko would go on to officially become a captain in DS9 season 3; nearly 30 years later, Martin-Green would play the franchise’s first Black female captain.) But I’ve always been a fan of Star Trek, Star Wars, and all those things, but hadn’t been asked to be in them for whatever reason.
