Eastern Illinois University Police Chief Marisol Gamboa spoke to the student senate about the police department’s therapy dog program and parking changes at the student government meeting on Wednesday. Gamboa brought along Penny, a three-year-old fox hound beagle mix, who is part of the department’s therapy dog program. Penny was trained at the Paws and Stripes College, which is run by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office in Florida. The program also has another dog in training: one year old Naja, who is being trained by Sergeant Andrea Beals. In their place are signs with a QR code where students can pay online for parking in the student union lot, according to Gamboa.
