Questioning the mayor’s priorities, Boston City Councilor Julia Mejia asked why the city can’t divert funds from its $200 million White Stadium soccer plan to build an addiction recovery campus to relieve Mass and Cass strain. “If we really want some money, you know there’s $150 or $200 million being spent on White Stadium that we can easily transfer over to this recovery center. The city is in the permitting process for a plan that would rebuild the Long Island Bridge out to a 35-acre recovery campus. Mayor Michelle Wu has cited the closure of the bridge and related recovery campus in 2014 as a key element that has exacerbated the drug market that’s since spilled into surrounding neighborhoods. Mejia said the city can look to its own coffers — to the controversial White Stadium plan that has taxpayers on the hook for roughly $100 million — if the Wu administration is serious about making an addiction recovery campus a reality.
