Halesowen MP Alex Ballinger has invited primary schools in the area to apply for funding as part of Labour’s Best Start programme, which is creating 4,000 new nursery places across England thanks to a £37 million government investment.
“That’s why Labour’s offer of 30 government-funded hours of childcare has already begun to make a massive difference, saving parents £7,500 a year and giving children the best start.
“I’m inviting local schools to join us in making early years education more accessible and affordable."
Building on the first phase, Labour is now rolling out a £45 million fund to create up to 7,000 more nursery places from September 2026.
Schools will be able to bid for up to £150,000 each to set up or expand their nurseries, with priority given to areas most in need of childcare support.
