A total of 194 St. James cooperators, with their votes on Feb. 23, 2017, managed to preserve their collectively owned social housing. How, exactly, did the Concerned Shareholders of St. James, with so many prevailing winds blowing against them, achieve their victory? For those who believed in social housing, ownership was bundled up with a responsibility to steward. Goodyear and other pro-privatizers worked to keep St. James a great place to live despite the tumult outside its doors.
