Part political commitment, part survival strategy, part just essence of who I am, holding out hope for repair is at my core. I have grappled with the dynamics of repair throughout more than 20 years of practice with transformative and restorative justice. I believe each of us comes from a lineage—no matter how buried—that knew how to heal, how to repair with each other. We don’t have to repair in every possible direction in order to have a meaningful experience of repair. In this way, we can repair with ourselves and each other, even when accountability and justice are not possible.
