“It was coming straight at me,” she said of the logging truck. “It’s a tree hearse,” Simard said of the logging truck, as we walked back to her truck. We smelled it before we saw it: the unmistakable odor of ground-up, freshly cut trees. “Those are old-growth trees,” Simard said, glancing at logs piled by the side of the road, on the other side of the chain.
